8 Oct 2020 - Today the £50 million
launches to incentivise change and help repair our planet.
Five £1 million awards will be given annually for 10 years, including one to protect and conserve the ocean.
The Earthshot Prize describes itself as the most prestigious global environment prize in history, designed to incentivise change and help repair our planet over the next ten years.
The Prize aims to turn the current pessimism surrounding environmental issues into optimism, by highlighting the ability of human ingenuity to bring about change, and inspiring collective action.
An awards ceremony will take place in different cities across the world each year between 2021 and 2030 to award five winners The Earthshot Prize. Five, one million-pound prizes will be awarded each year for the next 10 years, providing at least 50 solutions to the world’s greatest environmental problems by 2030.
The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge unites people to tackle some of today’s biggest challenges, delivering impact on a range of issues that matter to Their Royal Highnesses and to society. The Royal Foundation is currently running The Earthshot Prize until it becomes it’s own entity by the end of 2021.
